Hey, I'm Dr. Huang! Welcome to my little corner of the digital universe (drhuang.top).

So, who am I? Well, that story starts "a long, long time ago"...

Picture this (like, 20 years back... yikes!), I was a passionate but maybe slightly clueless undergrad majoring in Sports Medicine. Fueled by that "didn't know any better" kind of energy, I dove headfirst with a few buddies into the Shanghai startup scene and launched a weight management company. You might chuckle, but we actually managed to cobble something together and even snagged a bronze in some national entrepreneurship competition – looking back, it must have been pure beginner's luck, right?
What makes this 'former founder' even prouder, though, is that after I pivoted towards the Ivory Tower, the old team kept the momentum going, turning the company into a major player in the industry. Deciding to step away from the startup we'd poured our hearts into, to chase that fancy-sounding Biomechanics PhD all the way down in New Zealand, was genuinely one of the toughest calls I've made. It was a real tug-of-war between a promising company I helped build and the pull of exploring the unknown. But honestly, that 'take-on-the-world' startup grit? It was absolutely the 'jet fuel' that got me through grinding out that PhD thesis in NZ.

Alright, fast forward to today...

On weekdays, you'll most likely find me wrestling with data as a Data Scientist. My natural habitat is the land of ones and zeros, where I'm usually wrangling data, tweaking models, and poking at AI – basically, trying to make machines behave better and be more useful (while quietly praying they don't achieve world domination too soon).
And that wild 'startup + lab' combo from my early days? It definitely wired my brain a bit differently, giving me a knack for taking the road less traveled when looking at problems. For instance, I can't help but wonder: Could an algorithm's data flow or a project's structure be optimized like an athlete's 'power chain' – making the power (information) transfer smoother, minimizing energy loss (compute cost), and maximizing the final burst (runtime efficiency)?
Evenings and weekends? Total plot twist. I'm the designated wrangler (ahem, Dad) of two little 'human tornadoes.' My days are filled with laughter (and utter chaos), constantly honing my skills in emotional regulation, creative problem-solving, and rapid-response cleanup. Plus, I'm hopelessly addicted to making things with my hands – whether it's battling pieces of wood into submission to create (subjectively) decent furniture and toys, or impulsively deciding to gut and remodel some corner of the house (the laundry room was the latest casualty). Sawdust, code, and the occasional questionable kitchen creation – those are my go-to 'flow state' triggers.

So, what's this blog all about?

Simply put, it's where I, a guy constantly bouncing between the digital and physical worlds, share some hard-earned lessons from my "tinkering":
  1. Wrestling with AI: Sharing my attempts to "tame" those fascinating AI tools, aiming for less "artificial stupidity" and more actual productivity, helping you get stuff done and boost efficiency.
  1. Future-Proofing the Mini-Humans: As an admittedly anxious Dad with a tech-ish radar, I mull over how to give our kids the essential "skill patches" (like STEM thinking) for their "future operating systems," so they're not caught digitally naked in the AI age.
  1. Leveling Up My Own Brain: Chatting about applying data-thinking principles to personal growth – like using structured thinking to fight chaos, or iterative methods to debug bad habits, moving beyond just "going with the gut."
  1. The Glorious Mess of Making Stuff: Documenting the beautiful chaos of parenting, the "epic fails" from the woodshop, the war stories (and budget hacks!) from DIY renovations – capturing that real, unfiltered slice of life.

What you might stumble upon here:

  • Some potentially nerdy deep dives, explained (hopefully) in plain English.
  • Practical "how-tos" (and maybe some "how-not-tos") that might save you some trouble down the road.
  • The musings of a "middle-aged tech guy" trying to find that elusive optimal balance between technology, parenting, and hobbies.
In short, no ultimate truths here, just footprints from the journey.

Feel free to drop by, hang out, and let's chat tech, life, and everything in between!
